| This is a vaginal infection caused most commonly by the fungal organism Candida albicans. Yeast (a fungus) and bacteria are normal in the vagina. Sometimes either one can grow too much and cause either a yeast or a bacterial vaginal infection. Majority of women have at least one yeast vaginal infection in their lifetime. Symptoms of a yeast infection include itching and burning, a white or yellow discharge, red and swolen look, special odor, and pain. You should see a gynecologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Some tests will be conducted to rule out bacterial and other infections which need different treatments. Some of the preventive measures you can take: - Wash the front area to back after toileting. - Use natural soaps. - Urinate before and after intercourse. - Avoid wearing tight synthetic clothing. - Decrease stress in your life and get more rest. - Take Vitamin C. This makes the vagina more acidic. - Eat curd more often. If you get yeast infections when taking antibiotics, start yeast treatment at the same time as you start the antibiotic and continue it for 3 days after you stop the antibiotic.
