Hi...I have been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse syndrome. My doc has told me that in case I ever undergo any surgery, however minor, I need to first inform the surgeon about my MVP syndrome and get the proper antibiotic before getting operated.
I want to know what would happen if I am in a situation, ( like falling unconscious in an accident) where I am not able to convey this to a doctor performing an emergency surgery on me? What would then be my risk due to MVP?

I always keep my frown, up side down :-)

Yes, its true that there is  a risk of what is known as endocarditis in case a surgery is performed for MVP patients. Some possible options:
- Put a note in your pocket stating your MVP condition
- Let your relatives and friends know of the situation
