For the last 3-4 days I am seeing blood in my stool. Is it serious? Do I need to see a doctor?

Bleeding in the digestive tract is a symptom of a disease rather than a disease itself. Bleeding can occur as the result of a number of different conditions, ranging from not-serious to life-threatening.

The cause of bleeding may not be serious, but locating the source of bleeding is important. A complete history and physical examination are essential. Symptoms such as changes in bowel habits, stool color and consistency, and the presence of pain might tell the doctor which area of the GI tract is affected. Endoscopy is a common diagnostic technique that helps to identify the bleeding source.

I recommend you make an appointment with a gastroenterologist immediately to identify the cause of your bleeding and the right treatment.
