Dear Customer,

Welcome to the Apollo Clinic Koramangala! We have prepared this information sheet to help you better understand the various steps involved in a typical Health Check-Up procedure at our clinic. Please note that this information sheet is a general guide only and the exact list of tests and their sequence might vary in your case. We will do everything possible to make your visit a smooth and comfortable one. The basic steps are as follows:

Step 1: Urine and Stool Sample

  • You should pick up urine and stool sample containers the night before and bring the stool and morning urine sample with you when you come for the health check.
  • If urine sample is not brought along with you, please do not collect urine sample before your Ultrasound test else you may have to wait for long time consuming water for ultrasound procedure to be done (you can check with the health check coordinator regarding this).

Step 2: Registration and Billing

·         Registration and billing takes place on the ground floor.

·         If this is your first visit, you will be asked to fill-out a simple customer profile form. If you have visited our clinic before, you don’t need to fill-out the customer profile form again.

·         A bill will be generated for you. You can make a payment either via Cash, Credit Card, or Debit card. For company sponsored health checks, a credit bill will be raised.

·         Once the payment has been made, you will be handed a Health Checkup checklist. The checklist will be used by our staff to track the status as you go through various tests and consultations as part of your health check.

·         After billing, you will be asked to proceed to the First Floor for completion of medical tests as indicated on your checklist.

Step 2: Medical Tests – Fasting Required

·         Fasting Blood Sample Collection: 8-10 hours of fasting is advised for fasting blood sample. The blood sample is taken from a vein in your arm. An elastic band is wrapped around your upper arm. It may feel a little tight. You may feel a quick sting or pinch.

Step 3: Breakfast

·         A complimentary light breakfast is included as part of certain Apollo Health Checks.

·         If complimentary breakfast is not included in your package, you can have a light breakfast at a nearby place outside the clinic. Please avoid having a heavy breakfast.

Step 4: Medical Tests – Fasting Not Required

·         Chest X-ray – Radiological investigation to rule out lung pathology.

·         ECG - is a test that records the electrical activity of the heart, it is used to measure the rate and regularity of Heart beats as well as the size and position of the chambers.

Self-adhesive electrodes will be attached to select locations of the skin on the arms, legs and chest. The test is painless and takes only few minutes to perform once the leads are in position. After the test, the electrodes are removed.

·         Ultrasound: Your bladder has to be full for accurate results of your Ultrasound test. Ultrasound examinations can be used in various areas of the body for a variety of purposes. These purposes include examination of the chest, abdomen, blood vessels (such as to detect blood clots in leg veins) and the evaluation of pregnancy. In the chest, ultrasound can be used to obtain detailed images of the size and function of the heart. Ultra sound is a radiology technique, which uses high frequency sound waves to produce image of the organs and structures of the body.

You will lie down for the procedure. A clear, water-based conducting gel will be applied to your skin over the probe area on your body. The gel helps transmit sound waves. A hand-held probe is then moved over the area. The procedure is painless and harmless.

·         PFT: Lung function tests (also called pulmonary function tests, or PFTs) evaluate how well your lungs work. The tests determine how much air your lungs  can hold, how quickly you can move air in and out of your lungs, and how well your lungs add oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from your blood. The tests can diagnose lung diseases and measure the severity of lung problems.

You will breathe into a mouthpiece attached to a recording device (spirometer). The information collected by the spirometer may be printed out on a chart called a spirogram.

  • TMT: A stress test is used to evaluate risks, symptoms, and signs of coronary artery diseases (CAD) and to evaluate blood pressure response to exercise in patients with borderline hypertension.  Do not eat heavily prior to the procedure. Read Apollo Health Check Preparation Instructions for more details.
A nurse will take you to the TMT room. If you are not wearing suitable clothing, you may be asked to put on a patient gown. Electrodes will be placed on your chest wall. If you have hair on your chest, the nurse may need to shave areas where the electrodes will be applied.

·         Second Blood Test: known as Postprandial Sample (PPS) is taken between 1 ½ - 2 hours after the Breakfast i.e. after food Insulin and other hormones are released to bring back blood sugar level to normal. PPS estimates the effective release and action of these hormones especially Insulin.

Step 6: Reports Collection & Consultations

·         After the medical tests are complete and before you leave, you should check with your Apollo Health Check Coordinator regarding Reports collection and doctor consultations. The reports of medical tests are usually ready by evening 4-5pm except on Saturdays and Sundays. The Health Check Coordinator will help you schedule your consultations with various doctors included in your Health Check Package. Please note that consultations with doctors are subject to doctors’ schedules and available appointment slots.

Step 7: Your Feedback

·         We would greatly appreciate if you can fill-out and drop in the feedback form at the end of your health check and tell us about your experience at our clinic. We take great pride in providing quality service, and your candid feedback will help us understand how well we were able to meet your expectations.
